Since the initial inclusion of the Rugby team in 1967, Sports Clubs at UCSC have been a focal point of student activites. The teams are traditionally student driven and serve as a crucial competitive outlet. The basic philosophy of the Sports Club Program is two fold. First and foremost, it is to provide a healthy and supportive atmosphere that celebrates sports as culture. Secondly, it is to be as competitive as possible while keeping within the parameters of sportsmanship and goodwill. There is no true uniformity between Sports Club teams. Some compete against other schools in set leagues while others have a more casual approach. Some compete against other Division III schools while others compete against the big schools in Division I. The single unifying aspect of all Sports Club Teams is their passion for sports.

All Sports Club participants are expected to be fit and able to practice and compete withour hinderance. Some sports require a physical in order to participate. All participants are required to fill out a Medical History Update form. Due to the low level of funding for Sports Club Teams, you may be expected to pay for team fees, uniforms and other costs associated with participating on a team.

INSURANCE: All undergraduates and graduate students at UCSC have insurance. However, that coverage may not be enough to cover the costs associated with even low level injuries. All participants are strongly encouraged to have additional insurance prior to participating in Sports Club practices and games. Please review your coverage to make sure it is sufficient.
For more information, contact Kevin Givens at 459-4220 or email at kdgivens@cats.ucsc.edu. The Sports Club Office is in the Intramural Sports Office at the East Fieldhouse, upstairs next to the main pool. You can also contact the Head of Athletics, Greg Harshaw at 459-4524 or email harshaw@cats.ucsc.edu for more information regarding Sports Clubs. http://www.goslugs.com/clubsports/

This is the oldest club on campus, fielding the inaugural team in 1967. They were also the first team here at UCSC to call themselves the "Slugs". Become a part of history! Play Slug Rugby. The UCSC Rugby club fields two men's teams. Each side attempts to ground the ball beyond their opponents' goal line while the opponents attempt to tackle the ball carrier. It's that simple. This is the oldest tradition on campus. Traditional games are played against the likes of Stanford and Berkeley. Visiting teams have been from England, Argentina, New Zealand and around the world.

Racquetball Club is for aficionados that are looking for a good game. All skill levels are welcome. We will meet every Tuesday from 6-8 PM, and we join the racquetball class on Thursday nights from 6-8 pm. For those that are confident in their game, we also come together as a team for Santa Cruz and travel around the bay area and compete in tournaments a couple times a quarter with a lot of major schools. You can either bring your own racquet or they can be rented when you arrive. The main purpose of this club is to be able to enjoy the game more frequently and most importantly to have fun! So come out and join us!
