BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU CLUB
UCSC is proud to be the only university in the U.S. currently offering Braziian
Jiu-Jitsu instruction under an accredited black belt. UCSC Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
is insructed by black belt Garth Taylor whose abundant titles include 5 time U.S.
Open Champion and 1999 World Champion. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that
emphasizes grappling and submission techniques. A BJJ artist controls his or her
opponent by gaining a superior position, from which he or she can finish a fight
with submission techniques or strikes. BJJ relies on leverage over brute strength
to overcome opponents, making it appropriate for people of all shapes and sizes.
