Kayaking
Sea kayaks provide a unique way to explore the hidden treasures of the ocean. Go out for a cruise on one of our kayak tours or get more in-depth training with a kayak class. Our classes cover topics such as equipment, paddling skills, rescue techniques, surf zone skills and much more. Sea kayak instructor, Dave Johnston, is a former International Surf Kayak World Champion. He is also a UCSC graduate and the owner of Venture Quest Kayaking. He has worked with the UCSC Recreation Department since 1985. You can also become a Kayak Volunteer Assistant. You will gain kayaking and leadership skills, while exploring some of California's most beautiful areas with fun and interesting people. Must have some previous kayaking experience or plans to take one of our kayaking classes. Meetings are held at the beginning of each quarter. For date and time, look in the Recreation Guide or call the Recreation Office at 459-2806. Some of our kayaking activities depart from the UCSC Dock at the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor.
